About the Campaign

Pfizer Bonamine's Biyahe Tayo! Domestic Travel Advocacy Campaign has won the Grand Anvil Award at the 40th Anvil Awards of the Public Relations Society of the Philippines in 2005.

BIYAHE TAYO!

Perceptions developed and implemented for Bonamine a domestic travel advocacy campaign entitled Biyahe Tayo! (Let's Travel!). A Memorandum of Agreement was signed by Pfizer, the DOT and Philippine Convention & Visitors Corporation (PCVC), the marketing arm of DOT, integrating it into the DOT's own WOW Philippines campaign, with its official title becoming WOW Philippines Biyahe Tayo!.

The intended audience of the campaign were Filipinos in general, who prefer to travel abroad rather than in their own country. The campaign aimed to make Filipinos more aware of the many tourist attractions within the country, as well as of their own rich heritage and culture. Bonamine also wanted to generate more awareness for Bonamine as a medicine for motion sickness and help it become strongly associated with comfortable and enjoyable travel.

Since Filipinos love music and watching and listening to their favorite singers sing, a song was produced. The lyrics were written by Perceptions Chairman Rene Nieva and musical arrangement done by Rico Blanco, Mike Villegas and Angelo Villegas. The song was then turned into a music video participated in by 21 of the country's leading musical artists (who donated their services for free) and directed and edited by Perceptions Executive Vice President Noel Nieva. It marked the first time that a cooperative musical production of this nature and magnitude has ever been done in the Philippines!

The music video was formally launched on February 17, 2004 at the Filipinas Heritage Library in Makati. The video was first shown on national television on the "Magandang Umaga, Bayan" over ABS-CBN on February 19, 2004. It was subsequently shown in other TV channels and played in various radio stations in the following weeks and months. Copies of the VCD were produced and made available by Perceptions and the DOT to people who asked for copies.

As a result of the campaign, Bonamine's sales have been revitalized. Pfizer got recognition as a socially-responsible company that is encouraging Filipinos to travel around the country and helping boost tourism and the Philippine economy.

The campaign certainly played a part in helping increase the tourist inflow by nearly 30% in 2004 over 2003, and domestic travel even more. The increase in the number of tourists generated thousands of jobs and millions of pesos in revenues for the tourism industry and the country.

Beyond these quantitative results, the campaign, especially the Biyahe Tayo! music video, made Filipinos more aware, appreciative and proud of the many tourist attractions of the country and of the talent, creativity and other positive traits of the Filipino people. It has helped revive the Filipinos' sense of patriotism and optimism for the future of the country.
